Sand

Walking along enjoying the sunrise on the beach,

waves crash and the little puppy's tail wags.

We play in the white foam amongst scattered pebbles

mixed with various shells lining the water’s edge.

The wind blows white caps on the water

as the sun comes up hidden behind clouds

of orange, blue, and gray tinted white.

A lone gull flies gracefully over our heads

against the gentle but steady wind.

Green sea glass shimmers in the sand,

like gold nuggets in a miners pan.

An osprey cries from the chimney of our old house,

while the warm water caresses my puppy laden feet.

We head back inside for breakfast,

together here in this moment with my little friend.

Time stands still, worries are far off, thinking only

of the two of us and nothing more.

Plenty of time for fear, anxiety, and pain later,

or maybe not…I have some green nuggets from the beach

with me, to remind me of our moment

together in the sand.

Week 11

Wasn't going to post this week, but here you go.

I'm at the bottom of the photo

Where the sunrise pictures are taken

Sign to keep people off the beach...yeah right

Evening on the back porch

Need to paint the rusty pipe and stain the deck

Mrs. Utz, I love you...

When I write something magical happens. Energy flows from my mind down through my body and onto this screen. This energy is sometimes a very warm feeling, and sometimes a very painful feeling, however it is always a feeling, and feelings are what make us who we are.

When I think about writing I think only about my finger as it gently pushes the little screen as I write, nothing else, nothing more, just my finger gently tapping as my mind goes through its paces. Writing keeps me thinking and thinking keeps me alive. Alive is good, I have nothing to compare it to, although I have seen the alternative and was not impressed.

So keep flowing energy, think before you write, think before you speak, and if nothing else just think.

Today I am alive and writing.

Thank you.

Much love and peace.

Morning

Awoke to another day, the last one is gone
never to return broken in so many ways.
With only the sunrise to keep me company, I am
an island lost in a sea of endless bad dreams.
Its getting harder to have the courage to
write these words that will decide my life.
The world has turned too quickly,
days like the sunrise are soon to be gone.
Shine on sun, warm my heart, embrace me in your golden hues,
for it is just another morning sitting here thinking of you.

Long Distance Love

I am on a bus to Mexico
Where I'm heading I don't know
Long distance love where did you go
Long distance love is all I know
The love we have lies far apart
We always knew that from the start
Now I'm on a bus to Mexico
Where I'm heading I sure don't know
Long distance love where did you go
Long distance love is all I know
Like raindrops falling on my skin
I'm looking for love all over again
Long distance love has come and gone
Long distance love don't do me wrong
As the sun came up I thought of you
And the kind of love that we once knew
I was searching for love I was looking for you
Long distance love if you only knew
My heart belongs to no one but you
From the mountains to the deepest sea
The kind of love that was meant to be
Long distance love where did you go
Long distance love is all I know
Now I'm on a bus to Mexico
Where I'm heading I sure don't know

Regenerate

“Where profits alone count, there can be no thinking about the rhythms of nature, its phases of decay and regeneration, or the complexity of ecosystems which may be gravely upset by human intervention…. It is not enough to balance, in the medium term, the protection of nature with financial gain, or the preservation of the environment with progress. Halfway measures simply delay the inevitable disaster.” - Pope Francis, June 18, 2015
Regenerate—to give fresh life
Regenerate - to reorganize
Regenerate – to recreate
Regenerate - to be born again
A growing number of climate, food, environment, health and justice advocates are embracing and promoting a world-changing concept: regeneration.
Regenerate—to give fresh life
Regenerate - to reorganize
Regenerate – to recreate
Regenerate - to be born again

Man Up

OK, this is notice that from this point on I will only portray myself as a tough guy impervious to pain, fearless, and brave.

"I will write about manly things in a manly way"

On second thought, how about from this point on I will only portray myself as a semi tough guy who can take some pain, not scared of most things, and definitely not afraid of the dark.

"I will write about feelings but in a manly way"

OK, damn it, from this point on I will only portray myself as a...hey..!, stop pushing, ouch that hurts, let me know when they are gone guy.

"I will write about anything I want...if that's ok with you?"

OK, this is notice to let everyone know that from this point on I will only portray myself as a guy who is definitely weird, but hey you already knew that...and f...... told me.

"I will write crazy shit that no one understands..."

Tough guy: "Kiss my ass"
Semi Tough guy: "That's Ok I can handle it"
????? guy: "why did you say that?"

Weird guy: "what? I wasn't paying attention..."

Tough guy: "Bartender, whiskey straight up..."
Semi Tough guy: "Bartender, gimme a beer..."
????? guy: "Bartender, oh...bartender..."

Weird guy: "hey man, don't bogart..."

Tough guy: "Come here baby..."
Semi Tough guy: "Baby I love you, come here..."
????? guy: "why am I alone?"

Weird guy: "now ladies, only one at a time please..."

Well you say, what is the point to this utter nonsense? None really, just had fun writing it. Need the practice.

Tough guy: "Screw off"
Semi Tough Guy: "Sorry if I offended you"
????? guy: "Kisses, bye!"

Weird guy: "people actually read this crap?"

Publishing

I learned today that if I publish my writing on this blog that most other publications, magazines, and literary journals will not accept my work for publication on their web sites or in their magazines. This makes me wonder if by publishing my work here makes this blog a publication?

If so, welcome to the new publication: Mr. Shorty Bighead, the publication for the ramblings, thoughts, writing, and artful expressions of junk yard dogs everywhere...

Soon you will not only be able to read and see my crazy stuff, but it will be entwined with the crazy things of other like minded individuals with the common theme of love and connection. Or if no one else decides to participate, then you can just keep reading my crazy stuff, how about that?

Thank you to all the publications that have rejected, not wanted, been unable to publish for whatever reason, or looked the other way for making this possible.

So, if anyone is reading this, I know a couple of you...we will be taking a new journey very soon to the land of .coms where the big boys live and play. Sound like fun?

I am envisioning a place where expressions whether they be word, music, or art can be shared, or just plain out dug by all. I will definitely be looking for feedback and all the help I can get, since I am limited in time, money, and extra brain space for such a huge undertaking (and to be honest, I really haven't figured it out yet, and a little frightened). Reality is firing up its beautiful engine, you know why? Reality is only our dreams coming true....

Lets do this, lets show the world what love can do.

We are all connected.

Much Love and Peace

Quietly

Quietly
waiting
for someone
to remind me

About love
About passion
About intimacy
About feelings
About tenderness
About kindness
About writing
About caring
About being foolish
About seeing things
About not stopping
About being there
About listening
About whispering
About being alone
About showing up
About waiting
About...

Quietly waiting
for someone

Holiday Inn

This is where my crazy ass story ends
This is where love has led me to
Stomach in knots and a headful of pain
Sleeping alone at the Holiday Inn
Do people really want to know me
And all the messed up places that I've been
A little crime and a lot of sin
Has led me to this bed at the Holiday Inn
Writing songs to ease the pain
Letting people know the trouble that I've seen
When I die will they remember me
As a troubadour with a message to sing
Or as a lonely old soul at the Holiday Inn
We are all connected somehow
Spirits are all around me this I know
Love is the word that comes to mind
Follow your heart as the cliché goes
The message is clear, you’re never too old
And we all have a story to sing
But you better be careful or you might end up
Alone at the Holiday Inn
I’ve been to Nashville, and Austin too
Met some mighty nice people along the way
It’s the ones in my own home town who scare me the most
Cause this is where I’m learning to play
I learned from Mr. Dylan and I learned from Mr. Prine
Their records I grew up with, I listened all the time
But what they didn’t say when I put my quarter in
Is if you follow us
You might end up sleeping alone down at the Holiday Inn
If you’re lucky…

Love is The Way

When you start telling people
what they can do

Is when the trouble begins

Love is the way to go
Love is the way to go

Don't shoot me brother for just standing here
Please just stop pushing me
that's when the trouble begins

When you send me off to fight your wars
and then steal my house
to line your pockets with gold

its the same old story been told before

When you start telling people
what they can do

Is when the trouble begins

I think they call it Civil War

Love is the way to go
Love is the way to go

Basic

Basic Screen Porch Design

Nothing to do with poetry and writing, but actually everything to do with it.

The beauty of sketching and building the porch line by line, board by board, is very similar to the beauty of building a poem or lyrics to a song word by word, verse by verse.

Being able to describe the sketch, the process of drawing it, and how you intend to use it to build the porch in words is creative writing.

I am a little light tonight, so not going to write a poem or story now, only this short piece. Just wanted to show you the sketch. Bored, no TV, remember...

Artisan
"a worker in a skilled trade, especially one that involves making things by hand"

Poet
"a person possessing special powers of imagination or expression"

Locution, Locution, Locution

Freedom
The power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint

Self Determination
The process by which a person controls their own life

Independence
The fact or state of being independent

Separation
The division of something into constituent or distinct elements
“prose structured into short sentences with meaningful separation into paragraphs”

You thought that I was going somewhere else with this didn’t you…

Words
A single distinct meaningful element of speech or writing, used with others (or sometimes alone) to form a sentence and typically shown with a space on either side when written or printed

Expression
The process of making known ones thoughts or feelings

Phrase
A small group of words standing together as a conceptual unit, typically forming a component of a clause

Locution
A word or phrase, especially with regard to style or idiom

Thought for the day:

The freedom, self-determination, and independence to separate words and expressions into phrases using locution…

Much Love and Peace
