Cryptic (Part 16)

As the black dog laid on the floor resting
and Love was in the bed fast asleep
Peace started to think about what Fate
had told him just a few days earlier.
"Your destiny lies close but far,
it will find you when you are not looking,
do not worry about where or when,
just keep Love and Doom from destroying you first".
He could understand the last part
since most of his life he had struggled with these two,
but the first part about being close but far was puzzling him.
Did this mean that Destiny was close meaning soon,
yet far away in distance or just the opposite?
As far as worrying went
not a day in Peace's live had gone by without some type of worry.
Just that moment the dog jumped up and started barking
startling Peace and awakening Love.
"Settle down girl" Peace said,
"it's only the wind blowing branches against the window", or was it?
"Are you certain?" Love replied.
"Let's hope so, we should still be safe here for now".
There were forces at work that Peace was not aware of
although he knew that outside that window
and the safety of these confines lied a secret
that would not only answer all of his questions
about his thoughts and how they affected others
but might be too powerful for even him to control.
His main objective now was to keep Love safe
and to begin the journey to where their Destiny lies.

Cryptic (Part 15)

As she laid there with her head against the pillow
staring up into his eyes
she felt a drop splash against her cheek.
He was crying for some reason.
She closed her eyes and thought hard on what to say
for she knew what they had together may not last.
Another drop and then the words "I love you"
were being whispered to her from this gentle mans lips
as he bent down slowly and kissed her softly.
This was the kiss that she had dreamed of and now he was crying.
"What's wrong" she asked, "nothing" he replied " I love you".
These were happy tears from deep inside his soul
and she accepted them and his love.
It had been many years for each of them to get to this moment
and feel the love that they had both craved.
As she felt him touch the most deepest and intimate parts
of her mind and body she whispered back "I love you too,
I have always loved you".
Time had vanished and the past slowly melted into the present.
What was in store for these two and why they had been brought together
was not important now as they embraced.
Little did they know that what they had just felt together
was both the beginning and the end of their journeys.

Week 32

I love you

You can beat me up, throw darts at me, run me over, say all the mean shit to hurt me that you want but it does not change the fact, love is the answer, love is the key, and love will change the world.

Take it if you want it, if not move out of the way so someone who wants or needs it can have it.

We are all connected, trust me on this one...

3 words, alone relatively insignificant but together they have the power to change someone's entire outlook on life.

All I have this week

Much love and peace

Do you know what this is? Funny if you think about it.

Happy Tears

Have you ever cried when something makes you feel good or, when a friend calls just to say hello? When things feel like they are coming down all around someone does something nice to lift you up and a tear comes to your eye but you're happy not sad.

These are a few poems collectively called:

Happy Tears

I hope to always be
your sunrise on the water
and the birds that fly afar.
So that you may take my spirit
and light the morning sky
as you spread your wings and soar.

Cry happy tears

Clear your mind
Relax and feel your breath
Float silently and slow
Let the world escape you
Put your fears to rest
As you reach the next plateau
Light the way with love anew
Feel your soul become refreshed

Cry happy tears

Close your eyes as we begin
don’t speak or lose control.
Take my hand and forgive our sins,
feel love inside your soul.
Forgo your ears and hear your muted song
of passions fervor and intensity,
known only by the flames of past worlds gone,
brought together once again
to share eternal ecstasy.

Cry happy tears

I lost you once
Divinely now you come
From nowhere
To be one
To bring love
To bring power
To be the light
In my darkest hour

Cry happy tears

For love is all that is and all that will forever be.

Much Love and Peace

Someone Said

Some say the truth will set you free
But,
Pining for the past don’t interest me
Look to the future not far behind
Someone said about these modern times
Not only does the refugee yearn to be free
They are not the ones who are most in need
It's  the ones who have the most and lie
As they make their passage through the needle and the eye
While others toil their lives away
Like little children the rich men play
Spending coins ripped from others grief
And then whine and cry for tax relief
All the McMansions now in a row
But there's nowhere for the food to grow
So what’s the answer they tell me
Blinded by the paid for news that we are forced to see
Modify to grow the food for greed
While selling you the right to plant the seeds
They not only poisoned  the once fertile land

They own the rights to the life in your hands

So,
Put on your hat and grab your stick
Call your politician and give him some shit
Cause,
Look to the future not far behind
Is what someone said about these modern times

Cryptic (Part 14)

He didn't think that he could take another heart break,

and keep smiling anyway.

There had to be someone,

alone is not something that he dreamt of

when his life story flashed on the screen.

Too many cracks in his heart were patched

with unfulfilled and worn out bandages.

How long would it be before it fell apart completely.

Friends had their own lives and their own loves.

They listened when he cried,

but could only offer him a hug or a kind word.

He craved a deep committed unconditional love,

the kind that makes lonely nights bearable,

someone that could feel what he felt

and bring it home for him.

I guess he took too many chances and lost.

No more throwing caution to the tide.

He hoped that she would love him

for his heart and mind,

not just how he looked

hanging on her side.

Doom was with him again,

however he knew that Love would prevail.

They had connected for a reason,

to bring Love into a world

that was in dire need of healing.

Now that Fate had brought them together

they would begin the journey

to find their Destiny.

Love For Sale

No more putting myself on the clearance rack of love

Someone will have to pay full price on the tag as shown above

So don't come shopping with empty dreams looking for a deal

You'll have to let it all out and keep it fucking real

So before you buy look in my eyes and tell me what you see

Cause this heart and soul are genuine and made with quality

No bargain basement crap, don’t worry you won't get burned

This love will last forever and never have to be returned

Attention shoppers there's love for sale but it ain't going cheap

It's a little worn but sturdy something you just might want to keep

Try (or note to self)

I don't like the word try
don't try to write
just write
Good or bad just write
Don't try just do
I fell down once
And tried to get up
And couldn't
So instead of trying
I just got up
Some people make things look easy
But in truth nothing is easy
It is just as hard for them
As it is for you
They just don't try
They get up
So get your ass up
Stop worrying and go about your life
And when it's time to write
Just write
It's there
You're just trying to hard
To get up
Oh yeah and don't get so drunk
Or hung up on shit
That when you fall you can't get up
Helps too
But then sometimes that's
When I do my best writing
So maybe just keep your notepad
With you while you're lying on the floor
No no, don't do that

That's bad advice

Here's good advice:

When you don't know what to do,
just do something,
and as you're doing something
what you are supposed to do will come to you.
Just don't be sitting down when the boss walks by...

or perhaps when inspiration shows up?

I spend a lot of time moving a ladder
from one side of the room to the other
or sweeping the floor
until I figure out what the fuck to do next.

Don't sit around waiting for inspiration
when you could be doing something else.

Week 31

As I look into the future

uncertain where I will be,

I will search for a place

where there is love for me.

If you're there when I show,

and feel these words I write,

hold on to my hand and know

as I have walked the path of life,

sometimes I've stopped

to smell the roses

and other times I've not.

Don't You Think

Green walls and hardwood floors

are what I love.

T shirt and knee socks

with lace ribbons

are the attire for the day.

The couch is for sitting

but you choose the floor.

What are you reading

with that look so demure?

Is it about love?

Don't answer.

Just let me think about it.

Because that's how it works.

You make me think

that I can write

so I do.

Nothing too complicated
about it.

Love that is...

Don't you think?

Badly

Want so badly to feel the touch of another
Want so badly to hear the voice of another
Want so badly to smell the fragrance of another
Want so badly to taste the lips of another
Want so badly to see the beauty of another
Is it so bad to want so badly?

Week 30

I am not certain whether this is week 30 or 31 so we will just stay in order and call it 30. The weeks are starting to run together and I have been sick for the last couple so fuck it, this is week 30.

A lot has been happening, we have had two holidays and it is a new year. Ms. Virginia is now 6 months old and turning into a beautiful but unruly woman, seems to be the way it is with me and women.

My friend Tamara has sent me some gifts from her Kickstarter pledge drive for her new book soon to be released on the life of Guy Clark. I really appreciate them as well as her friendship, she is a very nice person and I wish her the best with her book.

I am starting off the new year right, finally got my juicer and can start getting back on track health wise. I have been thinking about going vegan, but I have been eating meat my entire life and may have to start slowly if at all. At the least I have substituted juicing with my daily bacon and eggs which should be a good start.

Not sure why I posted this, just a cool picture of the moon and star.

Cool sunrise...

I have to keep my shoes out of the dogs path or they will become chew toys.

Ok, this is huge, I finally bought a TV set after six months and swearing I was done with watching TV. Well, I spent a few days back in civilization this past week and said to myself, wtf, I am getting one, so here it is. Of course I live 70 miles from the closest broadcast tower and don't have cable or satellite, so after two antennae's and standing outside waving them around out in the cold I finally have a picture yeah! More to come on this....

Just a beautiful sunrise this morning.

I really like this photo. It was taken of the sunrise this morning and cropped and then filtered a couple of different ways. I like the BW one the best.

Switching from coffee to tea has seemed to help my stomach, a little less acid and no dairy. Found the cup on a clearance rack, very appropriate...

Much love and peace

Somewhere

Somewhere in the quiet of the late night

In a phone booth

So far from home

You sit and cry

Pick it up and call

If you don't know what to say

At least I will know it is you

I cried when you left

And now you cry because you are not here

Pick it up and call

A quarter is a small price to pay

To hear love

On the line

Light a cigarette

Dry your eyes

Wipe the mascara off your cheeks

If I ask you to come home

Then what

Maybe I won't

Then what

Just sit there and cry

The bars are all closed

The streets are empty

Just another night

Of empty bottles

And broken dreams

The street light shadows

Cast an eerie spell

On all who remain

But don't belong

To the place where you are

Sitting lonely and afraid

Or getting beat by a drunk

I'm at home

Pick it up and call

I'll come get you

Cause I still love you

Not sure why

But I do...

Hipster

I was talking with someone yesterday and I’m just having a little problem that maybe you can help me with. I keep hearing this word “hipster” being thrown around. In my circles it’s mostly used as a derogatory term but I’m not really sure what it means?
Now, back in the day and even sometimes now I have been referred to as a “damn hippie” mostly I assume because I grow my hair and have been known to partake in the mystical use of psychedelics and mind expanding techniques to expand my awareness…basically I got high. I always thought of myself as more of a redneck with long hair (kind of like Joe Dirt), but being more urban than rural that was probably not the case. So, anyway being used to being called a hippie and looked upon strangely by un hippie types is nothing new to me, hearing things like “is that a boy or a girl”, and “them damn hippies stink”, and “why don’t you get a haircut boy "were pretty much the norm.

As you can see, this new hipster term is baffling. Is it good or is it bad, is it like being what we used to call people trying to look like skaters or surfers that we called “posers”? Now that term I can understand because it’s pretty self-explanatory i.e.; posing to look like something or somebody that you are not. Hipster actually sounds kind of cool, kind of beatnik like, if you are old enough to remember what a beatnik was. A beatnik was basically a cool cat who dug music, didn’t prescribe to the latest fashions, and sometimes had a cool goatee, like Maynard on the Dobie Gillis show, and said things like “hey wow man”. I guess the beatnik evolved into the hippie who said things like “hey wow man” and then “hey wow man, that’s groovy”.
It has been quite a few years since the hippie days, and there was quite a lull in the activity of cool cats or so it seems to me. There are a lot of old rockers still out there but most of them have gone along with the mainstream and shaved and got haircuts, stopped drinking and getting high and basically just being real people who like to make music and not being concerned with what they do or don’t look like or do. The rest of the world seemed to take a severe right hand turn over the last ten or fifteen years though ever since the punk rock days of Mohawks, ripped up clothes, and crazy ass head banging and mosh pits. Oh yeah, and I completely skipped over the disco days, loved the Bee Gees, but that was about it for that era of polyester everything. Now it seems like buzz cuts, and clean shaven right wing conservatism is the order of the day again for men, taking a complete swing back to the days that started the beatnik thing and then the hippie thing. People just get tired of going along with the crowd, and start bucking the status quo mainstream way of thinking, acting, and dressing.

So, getting back to my question what is a hipster let’s look at Webster’s definition. 1. Noun, “a person who follows the latest trends in fashions, especially those being regarded as outside the cultural mainstream”. Hmm, that leads to some interesting discussion, first, it is a person, ok, got that, second, someone who follows the latest trend in fashions, ok, got that, and third ,fashion is regarded as outside the cultural mainstream. Wow, so it’s a fashion thing? Now I’m really confused, lets dig a little deeper and try the Urban Dictionary:

“Hipsters are a subculture of men and women typically in their 20's and 30's that value independent thinking, counter-culture, progressive politics, an appreciation of art and indie-rock, creativity, intelligence, and witty banter. The greatest concentrations of hipsters can be found living in the Williamsburg, Wicker Park, and Mission District neighborhoods of major cosmopolitan centers such as New York, Chicago, and San Francisco respectively. Although "hipsterism" is really a state of mind it is also often intertwined with distinct fashion sensibilities. Hipsters reject the culturally-ignorant attitudes of mainstream consumers, and are often be seen wearing vintage and thrift store inspired fashions, tight-fitting jeans, old-school sneakers, and sometimes thick rimmed glasses. Both hipster men and women sport similar androgynous hair styles that include combinations of messy shag cuts and asymmetric side-swept bangs. Such styles are often associated with the work of creative stylists at urban salons, and are usually too "edgy" for the culturally-sheltered mainstream consumer. The "effortless cool" urban bohemian look of a hipster is exemplified in Urban Outfitters and American Apparel ads which cater towards the hipster demographic. Despite misconceptions based on their aesthetic tastes, hipsters tend to be well educated and often have liberal arts degrees, or degrees in math and sciences, which also require certain creative analytical thinking abilities. Consequently, many hipsters tend to have jobs in the music, art, and fashion industries. It is a myth that most hipsters are unemployed and live off of their parent's trust funds.
Hipsters shun mainstream societal conventions that apply to dating preferences and traditional "rules" of physical attraction. It is part of the hipster central dogma not to be influenced by mainsream advertising and media, which tends to only promote ethnocentric ideals of beauty. The concepts of androgyny and feminism have influenced hipster culture, where hipster men are often as thin as the women they date. The muscular and athletic all-American male ideal is not seen as attractive by confident and culturally-empowered hipster women who instead view them as symbols of male oppression, sexism, and misogyny. Likewise, culturally-vapid sorority-type girls with fake blond hair, overly tanned skin, and "Britney Spears tube-tops" are not seen as attractive by cultured hipster males who instead see them as symbols of female insecurity, low self-esteem, and lack of cultural intelligence and independent thinking. Hipsters are also very racially open-minded, and the greatest number of interracial couples in any urban environment are typically found within the hipster subculture.
Although hipsters are technically conformists within their own subculture, in comparison to the much larger mainstream mass, they are pioneers and leaders of the latest cultural trends and ideals. For example, the surge of jeans made to look old and worn (i.e. "distressed"), that have become prevalent at stores such as The Gap, American Eagle, Abercrombie and Fitch, and Hollister, were originally paraded by hipsters who shopped in thrift stores years before such clothing items were mass produced and sold to the mainstream consumer. The true irony here is that many of the detractors of hipster culture are in fact unknowingly following a path that hipsters have carved out years before them. This phenomena also applies to music as well, as many bands have become successful and known to mainstream audiences only because hipsters first found and listened to them as early-adopters of new culture. Once certain concepts of fashion and music have reached mainstream audiences, hipsters move on to something new and improved.
Because of the rise of various online photo-blog and social networking sites, insights into urban hipster culture is reaching sheltered suburban audiences at an exponential rate. Cultural "norms" have been deconstructed by hipster culture as a whole. Hipsterism is often dismissed as just an image thing by some, but the culture as a whole is effecting changes in society, leading to feelings of insecurity and resentment in people who are no longer a part of the cultural ruling class. For example, a lot of anti-hipster sentiment evidently comes from culturally-clueless suburban frat boy types who feel that the more sensitive, intelligent, and culturally aware hipster ideal threatens their insecure sense of masculinity. Anti-hipster sentiment often comes from people who simply can't keep up with social change and are envious of those who can."

I am starting to get the picture now…are hipsters just a made up version of actual real people? It appears that maybe they are posers just trying to act and look cool instead of actually being cool? They are not people that actually had to shop at thrift stores because they were dirt poor and wore ripped up jeans because they couldn’t afford new ones according to this definition. Are they like hippies without the drugs, dope fiends without the dope, or drunks without the booze? Let’s see:

1.       20’s or 30’s (leaves me out)

2.       independent thinkers, counter-culture, progressive politics, an appreciation of art and indie-rock, creativity, intelligence, and witty banter (I hate witty banter, but everything else seems cool)
3.       Cosmopolitan (so they live in the city, that leaves out country folk from being hipsters?)
4.       State of mind (what state of mind? need to be more specific here except that they are slaves to fashion, whether they know it or not)
5.       Fashion sensibilities (see above)
6.       Vintage and thrift store inspired fashions (people with money who don’t have to shop at thrift stores? That make a lot of fucking sense except see #4 above again), so they are the ones who drove up the prices at the damn thrift store, I was wondering about that...
7.       Androgynous hairstyles (wtf is that?) by creative stylists at urban salons (so they pay to look androgynous, hmm…still, wtf is that?)
8.       Well educated with liberal arts degrees (that’s cool, nothing wrong with being educated)
9.       Myth that hipsters are unemployed (there’s a myth?)
10.   Men don’t like fake blond hair, or overly tanned women in tube tops (leaves me the fuck out!)

Well, it seems like hipsters are just people trying to find their identity in this crazy ass world by dressing and acting a certain way that is counter to the mainstream, but mostly driven by their looks and fashions, and maybe a little by simulating a bohemian lifestyle. That doesn’t sound that bad, the problem it seems is that mainstream is always changing, and what is todays counter culture is tomorrows mainstream. So I suppose to be classified a hipster you are always evolving and ever changing, that seems very difficult and troublesome leading to much anxiety?
My philosophy on fashion is and always has been fairly simple, for guys is this, make sure you have a clean pair of underwear and socks, a pair of jeans (holes are ok but get a little chilly in winter), a good sturdy pair of boots, and a tee shirt (colored or white is ok). For summer you need to add shorts and flip flops, and for winter add long underwear, a hat, sweater, and jacket. If you exercise, a good pair of running shoes and some gym shorts are essential, and for hairstyles whatever makes you happy is cool.
Fashion for women is pretty much the same with the exception of maybe throwing in a cotton skirt for summer, a scarf (and the occasional tube top…had to throw that back in), swimwear is optional, and yoga pants are ok if you’re into yoga.
Ok, so this is probably right up there with one of the dumbest things that I have written, but I am a little clearer now on what a hipster is and I hope that you are too. When someone makes a derogatory statement again “nothing but a damn hipster” I’ll look at my notes, try to understand both sides of the comment, and then check to see what they look and act like so I will know next time when I see one….

Much love and peace my hip friend!

Wait

I wait and I wait,
then I wait some more.
No one, no one is calling,
texting, or messaging.
I wait and I wait,
then I wait some more.
No one is knocking at the door.
I wait and I wait,
then I wait some more,
there are no letters in the box.
I wait for it to get dark
so I can go to sleep,
then I wait for the sunrise
so I can get up,
and wait.

Making of a Man

It all starts with some cosmic debris such as a few pieces of stone, some tumbled broken bottle, and a buck knife?

Through time these pieces of debris start to come together to form the features of early man?

During the evolution process some men are found to be different in small ways?

As time goes by man begins to develop a sense of individuality?

Now that's one cool dude that took millions of years to get where he is today?
